If you find yourself in an accident, don't panic! The first thing to do is assess the situation and check for injuries. If you're not hurt, take a moment to make sure that everyone else is okay too. Once this has been done, follow these steps:

1) Call 911
2) Get as much information from other drivers as possible (license plate number, contact info., etc.)
3) Take photos of the accident before moving your car or anything else
4) Exchange contact info. with other drivers
5) Call your insurance company from the scene of the accident to report what happened

In all cases, it's extremely important that you:

  • Get legal representation by hiring a lawyer as quickly as possible. If there are any witnesses, get their names and phone numbers. Take photos of the scene, your car and any other damaged vehicles. Have these photos ready when you talk to insurance companies later on.
  • Check-in with your doctor as you might be suffering from whiplash or another injury, even if it doesn't hurt right away.
